A tribute to Anne-Marie McTavish

Anne marie McTavish

We were very sad to hear the news about the unexpected and sudden death of our colleague and friend, Anne-Marie McTavish.

Anne-Marie joined us from Birmingham City University in November 2018 as Head of Worcester Business School and led the School until she stepped back from full-time work this Christmas to enjoy time with her family and pursue new interests.  She continued to work with colleagues in WBS supervising doctoral students and remained active supporting doctoral students up to her untimely death.

As her colleagues on SMT we will remember Anne-Marie as someone who was constantly encouraging, and passionate about enabling individuals to develop through taking on new projects and responsibilities.   She was always ready to act as a sounding board, usually responding to the question as you walked past her door, have you got a minute to discuss … with ‘yes sure go for it’ responding with wisdom, and possibly the offer of a Murray Mint to ease the conversation.  As we entered the Covid Pandemic and moved to working online such conversations continued online albeit accompanied by one of her cats seeking her attention by walking across the screen or sitting on the keyboard.

Her interests and skills extended beyond the academic world.  She was a skilled designer and creator of handcrafted decoupage cards and regular contributor to the WBS Photography Club.  There are many desks in WBS that display a handcrafted thank you card from Anne-Marie as a quiet thank you for a project handled well.

Our thoughts at this sad time are with Anne-Marie’s husband Kevin and her four children.  We will remember her for her listening ear, knowledge, insight, sense of humour and collegiality.
